Have questions? We have answers.

Generally, the Small Dog Area is reserved for small dogs who are not comfortable playing in a crowd of larger dogs. However, if the Small Dog Area is not being used, members with large dogs may bring them into the Small Dog Area, if, for example, they are introducing a new dog to Shamrock Dog Park and want to get their furry friend used to the area before letting it play with others, or if their large dog needs a time out. Large dogs must leave the Small Dog Area if a small dog enters the park and wants to use the small dog area.

We recommend that members bring their new dogs to Shamrock Dog Park during low volume times if they want to familiarize them to the park. Shamrock Dog Park seems to be busiest in the early evening, between four p.m. and seven p.m.

When I was at Shamrock Dog Park, someone said they forgot their card and asked me to let them in. Should I open the gate for them?

The only way you can be sure that someone has signed a hold harmless agreement and submitted rabies information is if they have a working keycard. If you let anyone into the Park who doesn't swipe his or her card, you do so at the risk of you, your dogs, and the other users in Shamrock Dog Park. We ask you to use your best judgment.

Remind the owners of the aggressive dog that aggressive dogs are not permitted in Shamrock Dog Park and ask them to remove their dog. If the owner refuses to leave, you can report them by calling park security of the police (these numbers can be found on the sign outside the entrance gate). Gather as much information as you can, including the owners’ names, the dog’s name, or breed and report any incidents to the Director of Operations.

Yearly Shamrock Dog Park Memberships are $60 for a family of up to 3 dogs, and $10 for each additional dog.

Dog Park Etiquette

At the Dog Park, we want to make sure that owners and their pets have the best and most enjoyable experience possible. For this reason, we've highlighted some of our most important etiquette tips.

Whether you have questions about your family, yourself or your pet, we have all of the answers to your most common questions, including:

  • How the size of your dog will affect your visit to the Dog Park
  • When are the best times for you and your dog to come to the park
  • What to do about dogs who are aggressive or frightening to you or your dog
  • What your responsibilities include as a Dog Park Member

Dog Size and Personality

At the Dog Park Association of Lafayette, we understand that you want what is best for your dog. We have small and large dog areas, so if your dog is nervous around big dogs you will still find a fun and comfortable place to play. You never have to worry about aggressive dogs, because we don't allow aggressive dog behavior in the park.

Being a Member

Being a member is a very fun and exciting time for you and your furry friend. It is also a time of great responsibility for you as a pet owner. We encourage our members to add their own watchful eyes to that of our team, to help ensure that the park is a place that both dogs and humans will love to play.
